How to Apply for a Manitoba Security Guard Licence

Start your career in security by applying for a Manitoba Security Guard Licence. Follow these simple steps to complete your application online.

Step 1: Complete Your Security Guard Training

Before applying, you must:

  1. Complete the Manitoba Security Guard Training Program (40 hours). Complete your training with an accredited training provider. Sting’s online MSGTP program goes above and beyond the basic training and includes the government exam. 
  2. Pass the Security Guard Licensing Exam with a score of 75% or higher. You must complete the provincial exam with eProctor Canada after you successfully complete the course.
  3. Obtain your training certificate. Download your Certificate of Completion when you pass the exam.

Step 2: Prepare Your Required Documents

Before starting your application, gather:

  • Criminal Record Check (issued within the last 6 months)
  • Manitoba Child Abuse Registry Check (issued within the last 6 months)
  • Security Guard Training Certificate
  • Digital photo (.JPEG format)
  • Two pieces of valid government-issued ID
  • Uniform Exemption Form (if applying for loss prevention work)

Important: All uploaded documents must be in .JPEG format.

Step 3: Complete the Online Application

  • Access the online application form through the Manitoba Private Investigators and Security Guards Program website.
  • Fill out all required fields accurately.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Review your information before submitting.

Only the applicant may complete and submit the application.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

After submitting your application:

  • Click the green Submit button.
  • Proceed to the payment page.
  • Pay your licensing fee using:
    • Visa
    • MasterCard
    • Visa Debit
    • MasterCard Debit

Once payment is complete, you will receive a confirmation number and email receipt.

Step 5: Application Review

Manitoba Justice will review your application and may:

  • Conduct background checks
  • Request additional information
  • Contact you by email or phone if required

If documents are missing, you will have up to 90 days to provide the requested information.

Step 6: Receive Your Licence

Once approved:

  • You will receive an email confirming your licence has been issued.
  • Your licence card will be mailed to the address provided in your application.

You cannot work as a security guard until you receive your licence card.
