How Do I Convert My Ontario Security Licence to an Alberta Security Licence?

Moving from Ontario to Alberta and need to transfer your Security Licence?

 
If you are Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen you can submit your application at the Registry office; if not, then you must mail your Security Licence package with a copy of your passport and permit to Security Programs in Edmonton.
 
If you are unable to provide proof of training as above then you can take the Alberta Basic Security Training (ABST) course with us for only $149 including the exam. It covers the basic training and additional Alberta legislation that is important for you to know. Click here to register.

When you apply, you will need to provide photocopies of your:

  • Canadian photo ID
  • Approved training course certificate, or
  • Copy of active licence from a Canadian province or territory
    • You must use the newest form and sign the labour mobility section stating that you are currently in your previous province.
    • If you do NOT have a current licence in another province, or do not use the correct form etc., you must provide proof of training with exam results from the government of that province.
  • 40-hour baton use-of-force training certificate (if applicable)
 
You will also need to provide a current:
  • police information and criminal record check (CPIC, local database and vulnerable sector check)
  • dated passport-size colour photo

There are 2 ways to submit your application package:

In person (ONLY PR + CANADIAN CITIZENS)
Take your application and documents to a registry agent that offers  registry agent that offers Security Programs licensing services.

Pay the licensing fee and service charge at the registry:

$100 security service licensing fee, or
$160 dual security service and investigators licensing fee, and
$9 service charge
If your application is approved, you’ll get a temporary licence that’s valid for 60 days.

 
Online payment is NOT accepted at the registry.
 
By mail
 
Include
  • completed application form
  • required documents
  • payment or online payment receipt for:
    • $100 security service licensing fee, or
    • $160 dual security service and investigators licensing fee
      • Pay the licensing fee with a cheque (made payable to the Government of Alberta):
      • Pay by credit or debit online: print and mail the receipt with your completed application

If your application is approved, a temporary licence valid for 60 days will be emailed to you.

After you apply
Your licence card will be mailed to the address in your application
